Until the government outlaws all gold sales to private citizens, please don't get caught up in the hysteria about the U.S. Mint's rank incompetence in maintaining inventories in keeping with market trends. And watch out for spread traps! This is about a shortage of coins, not gold.
The 24-kt American Buffalo joins the American Eagle on the Mint's endangered species list. The AP quotes spokesman Michael White saying the Mint has depleted its inventory of Buffalos and is suspending sales.
It doesn't help that Eagle sales were suspended on August 15 and new supplies are being rationed via its dealer distribution network. It should not be taking the Mint more than a month to get new blanks in and to produce new coins, especially not as competitors line up to fill the vacuum.
