The Senate's longest serving Republican was conviced on all seven counts of corruption. Each count could bring a five year jail term but it's unlikely that he'll get the maximum. Of more import to Alaska in general and the oil industry in particular are the implications of his absence from the Senate*. He has garnered billions in federal funding for Alaska.
*In theory, he could be re-elected in the coming November election; however the Democrats are salivating at the prospect of turning this reliably Republican seat. His political career pre-dates the statehood of Alaska.
