Workers At Goldcorp Inc. Mines Near Timmins, Ont., Ratify New Contract

TIMMINS, Ont. (CP) -- It will provide the 276 members of the United Steelworkers Union with a four-per-cent wage increase in each year of the agreement.

They also receive an increased monthly pension plan payment, a reduction to 56 years of age to qualify, plus benefit improvements.

Goldcorp acquired the Porcupine mines from Placer Dome in 2006 and entered into a binding agreement with Kinross Gold Corp. in 2007 to acquire Kinross' 49% share of the Porcupine site.

The operation includes three gold mines which have produced more than 16 million ounces of gold since production began in 1910.
