Republic Gold : 1.6 million ounces of gold and counting

With a growing gold resource which currently stands at 1.6 million ounces, two projects at the Bankable Feasibility Study stage which could be in production by 2011, highly positive exploration results, no debt, and cash of $4.8m following a recent heavily oversubscribed placement there's a lot to note about Republic Gold (ASX: RAU).

The company has strong expertise in orogenic geology, (see the US Geological Survey map for the location of the world's major orogenic provinces), with a particular focus on orogenic sediment-hosted gold deposits.

These are found, inter alia, at Muruntau in Uzbekistan which has a total endowment of 176M ounces and in Central Victoria, where production to date has totalled 75M ounces. Indeed it is in Victoria where many of Republic Gold's current management team cut their teeth on orogenic deposits as they were deeply involved in growing the Fosterville mine near Bendigo, (then owned by Perserverance Corporation), from a resource of 0.2 million ounces in the early 1990s to 3M+ ounces by 2005.
