Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- South African mining production fell 15.9 percent in September from a year earlier as strike action and mine accidents curbed output, Statistics South Africa said.
"Platinum group metal production was the main contributor" to the drop, the statistics agency said in a report published on its Web site today.
Output of so-called PGMs, which include palladium, rhodium and iridium as well as platinum, slumped 38.9 percent in September, while gold dropped 9.3 percent, it said. Diamonds fell 28.8 percent and mined coal rose 4.4 percent.
