Gold futures ended 2009 with their ninth straight yearly increase, soaring 24 percent for the year in New York. It ended up 27.6 percent in the London Fixing. The yellow metal's direction throughout was mostly dictated by a weaker US dollar. And for the most part, silver and platinum followed gold.
