BHP iron ore output rises 11%

BHP Billiton said today its second-quarter iron ore production rose 11 per cent on year to a record 32.45 million metric tonnes.

Iron ore production for the first fiscal half rose 6 per cent on year to 62.6 million tonnes and the miner said 54 per cent of the ore shipped from its key operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia was sold at benchmark prices with the remainder sold on shorter-term reference pricing.
