Organizers of Investing in Asian Mining Indaba, a new conference and trade show being launched in Singapore at the end of October by the African Mining Indaba promoters, said Wednesday that the World Bank and its International Finance Corp. development unit along with the diversified multinational Earthstone Group have been line up as sponsors.
The new event is a professional conference for the capitalization and development of mining interest in Asia and is being planned to attract financiers, investors, international mining companies, Asian government delegations and other mining industry stakeholders. Plans for the new event were publicly announced in February during Investing in African Mining Indaba, which has been held annually Cape Town, South Africa, for 18 years.
“Mining in Asia has tremendous potential to promote sustainable economic growth if the revenues from those resources are invested in much needed infrastructure and human capital,” Paulo de Sa, manager of the World Bank’s oil, gas and mining unit, said in a statement.
"Asia Mining Indaba provides us with an excellent platform to reach out to multiple stakeholders from government, private sector, and civil society, and see how we all together can best address the opportunities and challenges ahead," he added.
Jonathan Moore, senior vice president and managing director of Mining Indaba LLC, said the new event has been reconceiving strong support from others involved in Asian mining and investment, government delegations and the press.

The Asian Mining Indaba conference agenda will include an Asia mining ministerial foru, commodity review and outlook and other expert sessions. Keynote speaker scheduled will include David Hale of David Hale Global Economics; Frank Holmes from US Global Investors Inc.; author, financial commentator and international investor Jim Rogers; Liliang Teng from the China-Africa Development Fund; CRU Group consultant Allan Trench; and Kobus Van Der Wath from The Beijing Axis.
