There is no reason to fear that the US will go as far down the road to currency collapse as did the Weimar Republic, but the destruction of the purchasing power of the greenback is already advanced, as evidenced in a chart comparing the US dollar index with gold.

It is no surprise that safe harbor seeking wealth is trying to find a home anywhere but where it is leaving. Some of that wealth is finding its way into gold, finally. We saw a good hint of that in Friday’s $64 pop higher for gold.

Perhaps as interesting as where the CDNX finished the day is how it did so – on pretty good volume of about 158 million shares and hard upon its high for the day. That’s not huge volume for the CDNX, but it isn’t chopped liver either.
