Little in the way of real change was noted this morning as the final session of the week got underway in New York. Spot gold hovered around $1,645 while spot silver appeared stuck around the $31.75 area.

Gold ticked higher initially in Asia before seeing slight price falls and that weakness has continued in European trading with gold lower in most currencies.

With just a few trading days left in 2011, we can take stock of gold's performance vis-`a-vis other assets. Gold is 13.7% higher in USD, 12% higher in GBP and 14.4% higher in EUR. Gains were seen in all fiat currencies.

All major currencies have fallen sharply against gold and silver again today with gold reaching new record nominal highs in Canadian and New Zealand dollars, in sterling, in euros and of course in dollars as turmoil continues in global markets.

GATA has long maintained that the IMF has little to no gold. It has only pledges of gold that are part of the central bank gold reserves of IMF member countries.
