In August 2011, I wrote to the Financial Services Authority to seek confirmation that the London-based custodians of SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) were being regulated as custodians, despite the fact that physical bullion is not a regulated investment.

Gold briefly popped above the 200 day moving average at $1,643/oz. this morning and remains near the 3½ month high set in the prior session. A break above the 200 day moving average will be bullish technically.

It could be said that over the last 10 years my forecasts have consistently stood very much towards to the top of end of price expectations - much at odds with other LBMA members forecasts. This year we revert to the mean.

Until Chavez's intervention, China and Russia were gently turning the screws on the gold market: Russia by announcing regular purchases and China by encouraging its citizens to buy. This is a world Chavez wants to join.
