Dollar prices for buying gold rallied above $1,670 per ounce for the first time in over two weeks ahead of US trading, while stocks and commodities were broadly flat, with the main European markets except London closed for the May 1 holiday.

To my knowledge Molycorp has never actually explicitly said that they would produce separated MREOs/HREOs as part of the ramp up to 40,000t of, but the company has asserted that it will produce such elements in "commercially significant quantities."

More gains in the metals ought not to be ruled out as the European debt turmoil still presents chain-reaction-like potential dangers and investors might wish to remain on the safe side. As such, we could see a second day of tandem dollar-gold gains.

Monday's trading in New York opened under selling pressure for all of metals in the complex. Gold fell $13.40 per ounce to start at $1,552.30 on the bid-side. Silver opened with a $2.94 per ounce loss and was quoted at $45 in fairly hectic early action.
