Sterling Steel, a unit of Leggett & Platt Inc., has submitted the first application from a US company to list its steel billet delivery under the two and a half year old London Metal Exchange steel contract.

The London Metal Exchange said on Wednesday that it will call an end to its six-year effort to develop plastics futures contracts by delisting the contracts launched in May 2005 at the end of April next year.

The London Metal Exchange will list warehouse locations in Chicago and Detroit for delivery against its steel billet futures contract beginning Nov. 16, the exchange said in a notice being delivered to members on Monday.

Post-trade services for clearing of over-the-counter gold forwards out to 10 years will be introduced to the London bullion market in November by LCH.Clearnet Ltd. in a joint initiative with the London Metal Exchange.
